About Potomac Data

Decisions you can explain, defend, and act on

We help federal programs, their prime contractors, and private-sector companies turn complex data into clear answers, using analytics, machine learning, and AI that hold up to scrutiny.

Our mission

Make advanced analytics trustworthy and useful

Data science and AI only create value when people trust them enough to act on the results. Too often, models are impressive in a demo and fragile in production, or AI tools are adopted on a vendor’s promise rather than on evidence.

Potomac Data exists to close that gap. We bring the rigor of regulated financial services and the accountability expected in government to every engagement, at the scale of a focused, senior team. Like the river we’re named for, we bring many streams together into one clear current.

  • Answer the real question

We start from the decision you need to make, not from the technique we’d like to use.

  • Show our work

Assumptions, data choices, and limitations are written down, so results can be checked, explained, and trusted.

  • Be candid

If a simpler approach works, or an AI tool isn’t ready, we say so, even when it means a smaller engagement.

  • Leave you stronger

Code, documentation, and knowledge transfer are part of every engagement, so your team owns the result.

Leadership

Meet the founders

When you work with Potomac Data, you work directly with us.

Ayesha Khan

Co-Founder & CEO

Data science leader in risk, fraud, and audit analytics, with an engineering and public-policy background.

Ayesha leads Potomac Data as CEO, directing the firm’s operations, client relationships, and teaming partnerships.

At Verizon, Ayesha rose from Data Scientist to Principal Data Scientist and then Senior Manager of Data Science. Her work in the finance and internal audit organization applies analytics and machine learning to detect fraud and anomalies, assess organizational risk, and monitor key risk indicators automatically instead of by hand.

Before Verizon she was a consultant with Deloitte Tax in New York. There she used data analysis to identify tax credits and incentives for clients across industries, including fintechs, startups, and banks. She began her career as an environmental and field engineer at OMV’s gas fields in Pakistan, where she was the first woman engineer assigned to a field location.

Data science and ML leader with more than a decade in banking, fintech, and insurance.

Ahmad has spent more than ten years in financial services, nearly a decade of it as a data scientist and data science leader. At Rocket Mortgage he leads a data science team that builds propensity models across the mortgage pipeline and applies NLP and agentic AI to business systems. As a Principal Data Scientist on Capital One’s AI Foundations team, he worked on foundation-model capabilities, including an LLM that helps card-servicing agents retrieve information and a model that flags privileged documents for legal review.

Earlier, he built models at JPMorgan Chase for branch strategy and transaction analysis. At IBM he served financial-services clients with models for high-risk customer detection and insurance attrition, and he started out leading data services work at AmTrust Financial.
